Dear Reader,
My friend and confidant Chrissy Rutherford joined me on the podcast this week–our first time recording together since the SIXTH episode of Ask a Matchmaker!
Chrissy is an incredible writer, content creator, fashion expert, and creative entrepreneur. She also gives great advice, which is why I was thrilled to have her for this hotline episode! ☎️
First things first, we needed to revisit some of the hot topics covered on the podcast over the last couple of weeks because, apparently, I ruffled a lot of feathers.
If you haven’t seen the bridesmaid fiasco from one of our callers two weeks ago, watch this clip. Not only was I shocked about the utterly outrageous way this bridesmaid was treated, I couldn’t believe she paid for her own dress.
I guess I’m alone in this because many of you reached out to me and explained that, yes, bridesmaids are expected to cover their expenses. And unfortunately, a lot of women are carrying resentment towards their friends about how much it costs to be in a wedding party. I’m of the opinion that the bride should pay for everything (bridesmaid dresses, bachelorette party, etc.), but what do you think? Reply to this email and let me know. 👰‍♀️
Secondly, Chrissy and I talked about whether men should be paying for dates. Here are a few reasons why we think they should:
  • There are so many costs associated with being a woman in America. From weddings to baby showers to social upkeep, the expenses add up fast.
  • Women are expected to look presentable every time they go out in public. As much as some men might see this as a choice, it’s not. Women are passed over in job interviews if they don’t wear makeup or have natural hair. Time and money must be spent to stay competitive in the dating and professional markets.
  • Women are tasked with these social upkeep expenses at a time when their salary is at their lowest (mid to late twenties). Then, when they get into their mid-thirties and beyond, many women are paying for fertility treatments–we’re talking upwards of $10k.
Then, we spend the rest of the episode answering your dating questions!
