Lolita Jackson Survived 9/11, Here’s What She Says About Changing Your Life.

This week’s episode of the Ask a Matchmaker podcast was a special one. I invited Lolita Jackson MBE, one of the most impressive, inspiring, and resilient human beings I’ve ever met.

Lolita is a survivor of not one, but two terrorist attacks: the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and September 11th. She was working at Morgan Stanley on the 70th floor of the South Tower when both of these attacks occurred.

“My department had an 8:30 am Tuesday morning staff meeting.” She says, “We were all in the same room, and I was up next to speak. I was daydreaming and staring out the window at the other building [the North Tower] when it got hit by the plane. I saw the immediate aftermath of flames shooting out and papers fluttering down.”

Fortunately, she was able to leave the building in time, take the subway home, and survive. But the experience forever changed the way she viewed life and work. She realized, “If I can get killed going to work, I better really love my job.”

A few years later, she pivoted to government work. She became passionate about solving problems for the people of New York City. She readjusted her whole lifestyle–getting more involved in her church, following her passion for singing, and setting stronger work-life boundaries. She used this traumatic experience as an opportunity to draw a line in the sand, and that changed everything.

Today, she has a laundry list of accomplishments including being named Member of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II. She has an incredible story, and her core message to listeners is this:

It is never too late to pivot. At any point, you can change your economic situation, pursue your passions, and transform your life.
