One of my favorite hotline questions was whether a good relationship requires a shared sense of humor.
37-year-old Lee, who is in the early stages of dating, met a guy who is the “whole package.” He’s kind, consistent, and shares her values, but there’s one thing missing… They don’t make each other laugh enough.
She wants to know whether this is a dealbreaker or if she just has a scarcity mindset.
This was a perfect question… because my guest was comedian Gianmarco Soresi. (Go check out his

)
As a comedian, Gianmarco believes that, yes, you need to be able to entertain each other in a relationship. Life is too hard not to laugh with someone!
As a matchmaker, I tend to agree. A shared sense of humor is a sign of intellectual compatibility. BUT…there may be an opportunity to supplement what’s missing. If you haven’t laughed enough, try doing funny things together. Go to a comedy club once a week. Watch a funny movie. Take an improv class. See what happens! As time goes by, you’ll know.
He did a fantastic job answering this week’s hotline questions and offered some hilarious comedic takes. We discuss:
- A Twitter fight between Gianmarco and The Rock
- Gypsy Rose’s newfound fame
- How to filter dating apps for people who want kids
- What to do if your sibling is marrying someone you don’t like
