Hi,

If you and I are going to have a weekly relationship, it’s important for me to be real.

It is so weird trying to create a blog whilst feeling paralyzed by awful news, images, and videos circling the internet. People are sad, shocked and angry. It’s an emotional time for everyone.

I believe in God. (It’s okay if you don’t.)

When I say I believe in God, I don’t believe God is responsible for the horrors we see each day. It would be easy to blame Her for everything. I think God is the one who gives us opportunities to show up in our communities. To be good people. To believe in love. To be loved.

Because love….for thy neighbor…is divine.

My husband once shared this video with me. It’s about how we all eventually are reincarnated to each person that’s ever lived. It’s a profound way to spend the next 8 minutes, so I encourage you to give it a watch.

Imagine if we all believed in this–that we’d eventually be reincarnated to everyone we’ve interacted with and will interact with in the future. What would that change? Would we be kinder to others? To ourselves?

I leave you with this thought exercise: say hello to five people this weekend. They could be future you…or past you. Say something nice. Make their day. Check in on your people. Love. Be loved. ❤️

🎤Ask a Matchmaker

If you’re looking for something light to watch amongst all of the heaviness, tune into this week’s episode of Ask a Matchmaker on Apple MusicSpotify, or YouTube.

I am joined by the lovely Cara Alwill, where we talk all things dating, self-development, and how to change your life.

Cara is a New York City-based creative entrepreneur who encourages women to live their most effervescent lives. She’s a best-selling author, mentor to women entrepreneurs, and creator of The Champagne Diet blog. Oh–and her podcast Style Your Mind has over 10 MILLION downloads! (I want to be her when I grow up!)

We kick off the podcast by exchanging Spanx stories and dating experiences, then move into Cara’s advice on how to get your ish together.

🥂Here are her top three tips for people who want to make changes in their life:

  1. Visualize what you want. Get that crystal clear clarity, because if you don’t know what you want you can’t move toward the goal.
  2. Start small. Pick one thing that you’re going to change. You can’t change everything overnight.
  3. Find someone to help hold you accountable. It can be a coach, a mentor, or a friend. Ask them to check in with you to help you stick to your goals.

You can follow Cara on Instagram at @thechampagnediet.

Be sure to check out this week’s episode and subscribe so that the algorithm shows our content to folks who need it! If you have dating questions you’d like me to answer in a future episode, click here or reply to this email with a video question.

🤳 Post of the Week

✌️Two words: Therapy. Spanx.

I’d like to personally thank Sara Blakely for inventing such a necessary and comfortable piece of underclothing.

Just for fun, if you find yourself rocking some spanks out and about, tag me and use the hashtag #therapyspanx. Let’s band together and NORMALIZE a little extra support.

P.S. If anyone has connections to Spanx, DM me. I want to collab!!

⚡️Maria’s Weekly Recommendations

📖 I’m reading Julia Fox’s BookDown the Drain. I have so much love for this woman. The cutout dresses. The iconic black eyeliner. She is so committed to being her authentic self and I admire that in her.

In her memoir, she recounts the raw ups and downs of her journey to fame. It is a masterpiece.
