Dear reader,
I wrangled comedian Joyelle Nicole Johnson for an EMERGENCY Ask a Matchmaker episode. 🚨
We got together to unpack Reesa Teesa’s “Who TF Did I Marry” saga. In case you’ve been living under a TikTok rock, Reesa Teesa is a Jersey woman living in Atlanta who went viral for telling the story about how she met, dated, married, and divorced a pathological liar.
Her story is particularly remarkable, not just because of the content, but because she’s managed to capture millions of people with her 53-part series (videos that are ten minutes each,  by the way).
In honor of Reesa Teesa, I asked the listeners to share the craziest lies they’ve been told by someone they were dating.
I won’t spoil it for you, but expect to hear about faked terminal illnesses, clues that don’t add up, and a whole host of other red flags. 🚩🚩🚩
Here are Joyelle and I’s biggest takeaways from these cautionary tales:
  • Meet your significant other’s friends. Right away. There is no excuse as to why you shouldn’t meet them within the first month of dating. Schedule a Zoom meeting if you have to, or invite them to meet your friends first. This should be priority #1.
  • Trust your gut and be strong. It’s often not that we don’t see the lies. It’s that we see them and choose to ignore them.
  • Avoid men who are 6’4 (just kidding, but not really).
Last but not least, learn who Joyelle and I would cast in the “Who Tf Did I Marry” movie. I’m thinking Shonda Rhimes, creator of Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy. In Shondaland, I believe there is a place where Reesa Teesa is held with care.
But let me know what you think! Reply to this email with your casting choices, or tag me on Instagram.
To see more of Joyelle, follow her on Instagram or visit her website. Watch the full Ask a Matchmaker episode on YouTubeSpotify, or Apple! Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe.
