Dear reader,
This week, I invited two remarkable individuals to the podcast who bring humor, culture, and a whole lot of heart. 🎙️
Gus Constantellis is a popular Greek-American comedian who went viral during the pandemic for impersonating his Greek mom. Christina Mavronas is a Brooklynite with Greek roots and a knack for blending humor with the human experience. Together, they host the Welcome To The Neighborhood podcast. 🇬🇷
We shared our affinity for Greek culture, Greek desserts, Greek accents, and we touched on a question I’ve been getting a lot recently: how to stay positive in the dating process.
Maybe you’ve been there–feeling discouraged when you realize a potential relationship isn’t going to pan out, getting excited for a first date only to have it canceled, or being ghosted with no explanation.
You’re not alone if you’ve been frustrated on your dating journey. But take heart, dear friend, because Gus, Christina, and I have some advice for you! ⬇️
Instead of thinking about each person as a potential future husband, wife, etc., approach your date without any expectations. Understand that dating is an opportunity game, and then reverse engineer it.
I remember hearing a story about Bryce Dallas Howard’s rise to fame. At 16, her grandmother told her that her father, Ron Howard, had to go through 64 auditions before booking an acting job. Bryce started auditioning with this in mind and got her first role after the 48th try. When her agent asked her, “Why didn’t you quit?” she said, “Because I knew I needed to get to 64.”
The same principle applies to dating. You might not have to go on 64 dates, but it might take 8, 23, or 47. The point is to remember to keep yourself open to the process.
Christina explains that in Improv, they always say, “Yes, and…” because they don’t know where that next thing is going to take them. That’s the juicy part. That’s life. If you carry this mindset into dating, I promise you’ll enjoy it a whole lot more.
