Hi friend,
How are you?
Have you been staring at your calendar in disbelief too?
2024 came hard and fast, but I’m excited because it’s going to be packed with awesome new clients, wonderful current clients, events, interviews, and intensives.
We kicked off a new year of podcasting with dating coach Damona Hoffman. She is the resident dating expert at the Drew Barrymore Show as well as a frequent contributor to NPR, The Washington Post, The LA Times, and Access Hollywood.
She also just released a BRAND NEW BOOK this week, F the Fairytale, which you can order on Amazon.
Damona is a nontraditionalist who has long rejected the idea of the fairytale–AKA the idea that we should all be chasing the same “happily ever after.” After almost 20 years as a dating coach, she’s identified four common dating myths that prevent people from finding their person.
I know you want to hear them, so here it goes…
🏛️The List Myth. You know, “He has to be six feet tall,” “He has to have brown hair,” “He has to make six figures…” So many of us come up with arbitrary criteria instead of focusing on what we need as individuals. We should be curating our list based on our lifestyles, core values, and beliefs. Not the superficial stuff.
🏛️The Rules Myth. As much as we might want a shortcut, there are no one-sized fits all rules for dating. Damona is all about giving tools over rules. While every situation is different, there are tools you can learn to help you navigate your romantic life more easily (you can check out some of the advice/highlights on my Instagram for examples).
🏛️The Chemistry Myth. This is the myth that you are supposed to feel sparks, butterflies, or chemistry when you meet someone new. Trust us, the spark is not all it’s cracked up to be. Damona recommends that you let your dates be guided by curiosity instead of chemistry.
🏛️The Soulmate Myth. This belief is especially harmful because it keeps people in a space where they are always questioning their relationship. The idea that you have one, predestined soulmate is not true. You choose a person and you make them your soul mate. Period case closed.
If this topic sounds interesting to you and you want to hear more from Damona, listen to the full episode on YouTubeSpotify, or Apple!
I’m recording my next live hotline episode on January 11th. If you’d like to be included in the hotline to ask a live question, reply to this email, and let me know which time slot works best for you: 2PM or 3PM ET.
🤳 Post of the Week
It’s been our family tradition to go to the beach every New Year’s Day, with our puffer coats and a thermos of hot chocolate. This year, we rang in the new year in Florida, so the beach was a whole different experience compared to the Jersey Shore! I hope each of you is having a wonderful start to 2024. Lots of love. 💕
